Towards a Process Oriented Architecture

Hi,

In this first post I would like to venture a definition of the main objective of this blog.

I’ve been working a few years now with SOA, BPM, and MDM concepts and this blog aims at sharing some of my experiences and observations around them.

This may sound vague, I admit.  However I think you’ll realize I am more interested in the challenges and strategies that we must build upon these concepts.
Process Oriented Architecture

As a start, if you’re already familiar with SOA, BPM and MDM, you may have pictured the power of a finished architecture based on these concepts.

Scalability, integrity, business oriented… Such an architecture has numerous qualities. Although I think the real challenge lies in its adoption.

For example, if you currently have a silo architecture with some point to point integration but you would like to move to a SOA architecture with both a good BPMS and an MDM solution, where do you start at?

You shouldn’t use the same methods applicable in the implementation of, say, an ERP.

How can you justify the investments? What business problems should you focus on? Should project management practices be influenced by the flexible nature of the solutions?

I hope to collaborate as much as I can in these discussions. I’m not a strong believer in miracle solutions that will always work but it’s never bad to share some experiences and ideas.
